Museums are part of the lifeblood of Toronto. They help us to understand who we are and where we came from. Cutting our city's museums will only serve to culturally bankrupt our city. Tell City Council that museums matter - to families, to seniors, to children, to new Canadians, to us all.
Stop the Cuts to City of Toronto Historic Sites and Museums
Greetings,
I just signed the following petition addressed to Toronto City Council.
----------------
Stop the cuts to City of Toronto Historic Sites and Museums
Museums are part of the lifeblood of Toronto. They help us to understand who we are and where we came from. Cutting our city's museums will only serve to culturally bankrupt our city.
Basing these cuts on attendance alone is a grave misunderstanding of the purpose of museums. Museums are about identity, linking the past to the present. In Toronto, the world’s most multicultural city, museums are even more crucial to social cohesion. Closing City museums will come with great costs, both economically and to the communities they serve.
With no consolidated Museum of Toronto, these sites provides crucial linkages with our shared past. City of Toronto Historic Sites provide educational programming for children, youths, and post-secondary students; they host special events all year-round; they research and develop exhibits, walking tours, and public programming that reminds us of where this city came from.
Our history is not for sale. Please vote NO to cutting museum services.
