My name is Elvy Musikka and I'm one of only 4 surviving federal medical marijuana patients.
On September 15, I was confronted and harassed by an Oregon State Police officer in Ontario, OR. The officer seized my medicine, interrogated me, and stated firmly he did not believe I was a medical marijuana patient despite me providing the proper paperwork.
I am 70 years old, was born with congenital cataracts and as a child had several eye surgeries, eventually developing glaucoma in my thirties which led to blindness in one eye.
In 1988, I was placed into the Federal IND program. To this day I am authorized to receive 300 medical marijuana cigarettes each month from the Federal Government. Before anyone could become a member of this program we had to have reliable doctors, extensive medical records, and had to prove to FDA, DEA and NIDA that cannabis the most effective, the most reliable, and is the safest part of our treatment.
The Oregon State Police did return my medicine, however, I want to make sure that an incident like this does not happen again and want to help the Oregon State Police to better understand medical marijuana policy - which will help them do their jobs more effectively.
The reason I am petitioning the Oregon State Police is because there are on average 2,000 people arrested every day in the United states, and most important of all police should be our friends, and we want their respect. Please understand that we are patient citizens and should be treated as such.
I understand that medical marijuana laws can be confusing and so I'm simply and politely asking that the Oregon State Police undergo training provided by Americans for Safe Access so that they understand both Federal and Oregon State marijuana policy to prevent an unfortunate incident like this from taking place again.
Please Undergo Training on Medical Marijuana Policy
Greetings,
I just signed the following petition addressed to: Oregon State Police.
----------------
Please undergo training to better understand medical marijuana policy.
On September 15, Elvy Musikka was confronted and harassed by Oregon State Police in Ontario, OR. The officer seized her medicine, interrogated her, and stated firmly he did not believe she was a medical marijuana patient despite her providing the proper paperwork.
Elvy Musikka is one of the only surviving medical marijuana patients part of federal program that supplies marijuana to patients. She is 70 year old, was born with congenital cataracts and as a child had several eye surgeries, eventually developing glaucoma in her thirties which led to blindness in that eye.
In 1988, she was placed into the Federal IND program. To this day she receives 300 medical marijuana cigarettes each month from Federal Government.
I understand that medical marijuana laws can be confusing and so I politely ask that the Oregon State Police undergo training provided by Americans for Safe Access so that they understand both Federal and Oregon State marijuana policy to prevent an unfortunate incident like this from taking place again.
