Stop killing non-native wildlife brought into rehabilitation centers

Stop killing non-native wildlife brought into rehabilitation centers
The Issue
In Oregon, Wildlife centers cannot legally accept non-native wildlife without risk of losing their licensure. Both Fox and Eastern Grey squirrels are considered invasive and euthanized on delivery in all Oregon centers. While we understand the desire to protect native species, we also respect the opinion of those who believe that the biggest threat to native species is man and our impact on their environment, and not so much non-native species that have been more successful at adapting to our incursion, and natural disease processes, then many native species. This is a natural process and part of the development of our planet. Nature has no respect for manmade labels such as native or non-native, nor state borders.
This petition is to give wildlife rehabilitation centers in Oregon the opportunity to choose whether they want to rehabilitate non-native wildlife. Most of these centers have a mission to treat all animals brought into their centers with the best of their ability, but in Oregon if this animal brought in is a Virginia Opossum, Eastern Grey Squirrel or Fox Squirrel their life is over. If you agree that this is wrong and should at least be left up to the centers to decided whether they want to rehabilitate non-native wildlife within the state of Oregon, please sign this petition. Wildlife rehabilitators are in the business of treating animals, not game management.
Regardless of your position, please try to find a rehabilitator rather than raising an orphan yourself and get involved in changing any law you feel is harmful to wildlife.
Please sign this petition to stop the useless killing of non native wildlife throughout Oregon.
Note: This petition is not to stop the removal of non-native plants or aquatic animals.
