OPPOSE Centralized Natural Gas Production Facilities in Flower Mound, Texas

The Issue

Flower Mound has a moratorium in place to prohibit gas companies from applying for a permit to put centralized facilities in our town, BUT this moratorium EXPIRES SOON and our gas ordinance still does not have safeguards in place to protect us.  Once the moratorium is lifted, Flower Mound will be vulnerable once again to the threat of gas companies moving these large industrial facilities into our town - close to our homes, businesses and schools.

Over 6,000 Flower Mound voters signed a petition a year ago to require the town to create an Oil and Gas Advisory Board to take a close look at all the pros and cons of putting CCFs in town, before making a decision on how to handle pending interest from the industry.  The Board recommends "That the Town evaluate all available options to reduce the Town's exposure to all centralized facilities" and  "That a citizen advisory board be tasked wtih drafting a new ordinance addressing permitting of such facilities".

Gas companies are driven to get more profits by having large centralized industrialized facilities in the middle of Flower Mound.  These facilities are MUCH LARGER and create MORE RISK and EMISSIONS than the average gas drilling site. They would connect multiple gas drilling sites by pipelines to collect gas and produced water (the waste fluids that come back out after chemically fracking the gas wells) in one place.  They have already penetrated Argyle and Bartonville and are moving into Lewisville with these large  industrial facilities.  The only reason they are not already in Flower Mound is because we fought back last year with a petition, and a moratorium to temporarily stop applications has been in place.   Please sign this petition and continue to say NO to industrial Centralized Natural Gas Production Facilities in Flower Mound!  This petition will be presented at Saturday's (Feb 12, 2011) public hearing before the Oil and Gas Advisory Board at 9am, Flower Mound Town Hall.
