The Issue

We play music to give love to those in need through Operation Helping Hands. A group of musicians gather throughout the month and play in the streets of Miami to gather tips to fund a monthly homeless outreach. Miami is booming with Arts & Music, it is indeed a very beautiful thing. We invest and attend events, though we cannot ignore the need in the streets and the lack of attention towards it. The area of Wynwood in particular is booming with new galleries, venues and cafes, but the surrounding neighborhood is still poverty stricken. Art pieces worth thousands are being sold in the same streets where homeless people push carts and sleep under abandoned buildings. By using our helping hands we can allow these individuals to experience the bliss of Music & Art as we remind them they have a purpose too.

We provide them fresh home cooked meals, donated clothing, music, hygiene kits, and prayer. Every month we have a higher goal in aim of making a bigger impact in the community. We are currently in the process of inverting the project into a non-profit organization. Our aim is to work with the city and follow the specific requirements to allow us to feed, clothe, minister and entertain the homeless. We hope in time to connect with rehab centers, clinics, housing and job placement departments that may help get them off the streets. We acknowledge the city has had problems with groups of people who feed the homeless due to garbage and defecation issues where they were feed, though we are aware and extremely attentive of leaving the area where we operate clean, including garbage from the food sharing as well as picking up the garbage from the whole block.

We ask you to please help us by telling the Mayor of Miami, Tomás Regalado not to punish people for helping the most vulnerable around us. We want the Miami County Commission to reconsider to proposal that would prohibit “unauthorized” people and groups from sharing food with the homeless people in the Miami area. Help us by being aware of this project which is wholeheartedly committed for the benefit of those who are not in such good conditions as some of us may be. We go to Art Walk and Art Basel, visit galleries, and yet fail to notice those lonesome individuals roaming around.

Every human being deserves the right to be feed, loved and cared for specially those in need, as well as the right to take delight in Music & Art. Help us keep this going!
