December  15th, 2013, 18th Ave Library (SEL) staff asked Yuxiang Chen to leave the SEL (a 24 hour library) after he was found sleeping at 3AM while studying. That by itself is enough reason to protest because he has every right to nod off or take a quick nap break in the SEL (who hasn’t?), but that wasn't all that happened.

When returning to the SEL 3 hours later to continue studying, he was harassed by the policed and asked to show his BuckID (something that I have never had to do or seen people do when entering). When he refused to comply due to what seems to be a language barrier, he was attacked, maced twice by OSU police.

This incident raises many problems:
-Harassment of students by library staff
-Police brutality on campus
-Lack of proper police training in cooperation with International Students (the highest paying and least represented students on campus).

Which leads to our demands:
1) An immediate apology to Yuxiang Chen
2) Compensation to Yuxiang Chen for emotional, physical and financial losses that he may have experienced
3) Hold those who attacked/ harassed this student responsible for their actions
4) Create a a more inclusive and representative system for our International Students

This petition will be presented to the Undergraduate Student Government and to the Office of Administration and Planning.
