In August 2010, a captive black bear mauled his caretaker to death in suburban Cleveland, Ohio. The bear's owner had been cited numerous times by the USDA, but there was nothing the state of Ohio could do.

Governor Ted Strickland has pledged to pass a strong law banning the private ownership of exotic animals. We're calling on Ohio legislators to make this a priority and keep animals and humans safe in Ohio.

Help pass an exotic pet ban in Ohio

Greetings,

Last month, a "pet" black bear mauled his caretaker to death in suburban Cleveland. Although the bear's owner had been cited numerous times by federal officials, there was nothing the state of Ohio could do to keep Sam Mazzola from owning dangerous exotic pets like bears, lions, and tigers.

Governor Strickland has pledged to pass a strong law banning exotic pet ownership in Ohio, and providing a way to take existing exotic pets away from their owners if the owners act irresponsibly.

Private ownership of exotic pets presents a clear hazard to the animals themselves and nearby people. Please do your part to pass a ban on exotic pet ownership and keep humans and animals safe in Ohio.
