Objection to an 84,500 sq ft residential project on 17030 Sunset Blvd in Pacific Palisades

The Issue

Concerned residents of the Pacific Palisades object to the permitting and construction of a new 84,500 sq ft residential development consisting of 49 units and 129 parking spaces located at 17030 Sunset Boulevard, Pacific Palisades, CA.  We have serious concerns about the geological stability of the land proposed for development given the history of landslides in this vicinity.  We are urging the city to take utmost caution in reviewing geological and environmental impact reports before issuing a permit certifying the safety of this project.

We are also concerned about the additional traffic generated by this development on an already congested area of Sunset Blvd near Marquez Ave. and Sunset Blvd. at Palisades Drive.  The proposed path of travel for residents of the project would prohibit left turns into the property by westbound traffic on Sunset Drive.  Westbound drivers would be required to take a circuitous route to enter the property from an eastbound direction.  Furthermore, travelling eastbound on Sunset, drivers are in a blind curve just prior to reaching the property.  This curve creates a potentially dangerous situation if cars were to stop or slow down to enter the property. This area of Sunset has a history of excessive speed and accidents.

Please join us in voicing your concern to our local and city representatives.  Ask them to carefully consider the geological and traffic-related safety issues before allowing this development to be built.
