With drastic cuts to domestic spending being proposed, we cannot afford to pay for US troops and contractors in Iraq beyond the December 31 deadline of the Status of Forces Agreement negotiated by President Bush. We have a moral obligation to get our troops out of harm's way. America's national interest is best served by interacting with the Iraqi people through diplomacy rather than force.

Dear President Obama,

You have, both as a candidate and as President, pledged to get our troops out of Iraq by the end of this year, 2011, as agreed upon on in the Status of Forces Agreement negotiated by President Bush. I am very concerned that there are now talks going on with the Iraqi government to keep thousands of U.S. troops there beyond this date. We cannot afford to keep troops there, it does nothing to enhance our security and it goes against the wishes of both the U.S. and Iraqi people. Please stick to your promise and bring our troops home by December 31, 2011.
