At 7:20 a.m., the Northshore School District (NSD) has the earliest high school start time in the region. Research shows that very early high school start times, such as in NSD, reduce sleep sufficiently to negatively impact academic performance and health. We believe that solutions exist to move high school start times later. As such, we request that NSD administration consider a modest adjustment immediately and work toward more substantial changes in start times for subsequent years that may include work on labor contract issues.
