The Town of Chelmsford has worked very hard to make our center down town a pedestrian friendly place, including the addition of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, traffic lights, attractive street lighting, and recently public sculpture on the trail near the steps to Ginger Ale Plaza. On Nov. 14 a fence was placed at the top of the staircase from the trail to Ginger Ale Plaza blocking pedestrians from the plaza. Besides making it difficult to gain access to the businesses such as the Java Room and Bertucci's from the trail, the fencing is unattractive and makes our town look unwelcoming. The property owner has already placed a large and also unattractive sign in their parking lot with dire warnings to drivers about not parking in the lot for trail use. We ask the property owners to remove the fencing immediately.
