British Columbia is of huge biological importance. It is home to the largest intact temperate rainforest in the world. The forest provides habitat for a great diversity of birds, mammals, amphibians, insects, and invertebrates. The rivers are essential for salmon, one of the most important species on the coast. An oil spill would devastate salmon populations, the foundation species on the coast. This would lead to an ecological disaster. The forests wouldn't receive nutrients from dead salmon carcasses and marine mammals, Orcas in particular. They would lose their main source of food.
