No highways through Potomac Neighborhoods and Agricultural Reserve!

No highways through Potomac Neighborhoods and Agricultural Reserve!

The Issue

Virginia lobbyists have proposed two Potomac River bridges – one through Montgomery County's Potomac neighborhoods and the other through our Agricultural Reserve. Virginia Governor McDonnell may already be pressing Governor O'Malley to support these bridges and connecting highways.

Imagine it: Two highways and more traffic ruining our neighborhoods and beautiful Agricultural Reserve. Worse, these projects wouldn’t relieve traffic on the Beltway and would serve too few people to be worth what could easily be $1 billion per bridge.

Tax dollars are scarce. We need to invest in sustainable and more effective solutions for transportation, like public transit, transit alternatives at the American Legion Bridge, and smart planning for development.

Email Governor O’Malley right now and express your opposition to Potomac River bridges into Montgomery County's neighborhoods and Agricultural Reserve. Urge him to stand firm with Montgomery residents and oppose Virginia's push. Thank him for focusing instead on sustainable transit-oriented development in Montgomery County, Prince George's County, and throughout the state.
