There are plans to have fireworks at both the V&A Waterfront and Simonstowns harbour New Year, as well as the usual public areas where members of the public may discharge fireworks.
We would like to petition the City to retract any such permits, noise exemptions notwithstanding, due to the environmental, human health and injury as well as the inevitable wild and domestic animal trauma and injury cost of fireworks.
You can visit www.bwcsa.co.za and get information on fireworks and a veterinary report on fireworks and animals, on our campaigns page.
We need Capetonian voices loud and clear, making their demands known. Please sign this petition so you , your family and companion animals may enjoy a peaceful New Year!
No fireworks in Cape Town
Dear Decision Maker,
I entreat you to reconsider issuing permits to any and all events organisers, groups, companies and individuals applying for permits for the use of fireworks by professional events organisers or by individuals, in the Cape Town area, including the V&A Waterfront and Simonstown Harbour, with immediate effect.
There is ample information (which can be provided upon request) to suggest that fireworks are environmentally unfriendly, from manufacture and transport through to air, noise, water and land pollution, human health and injury as well as the inevitable wild and domestic animal trauma and injury costs of fireworks.
There has to date been no action, despite the growing numbers of Capetonians who do not wish to continue having public displays of fireworks nor having the public have access to fireworks.
