Senator Buckley helped create the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in 1972, arguing for it on the floor of the United States Senate. Nothing in New York State has been named for Senator Buckley. This would be an appropriate way to honor his service to New York.  Senator Buckley served as our junior senator from 1970-1976. Senator Gillibrand holds the seat formerly held by him. It would be an appropriate gesture for Ms. Gillibrand to join Congressman Bob Turner (R-NY-9) in creating this appropriate naming.
