The police department demonstrated a total lapse in judgement and respect for first amendment rights with their behavior during the protest. There are numerous videos from this day that are clear evidence of an abuse of power and disregard for the rights of the protestors. Even the commanding officers present that day were seen tossing unarmed citizens to the ground for reasons that cannot be explained. There is even video evidence depicting an officer using pepper spray on three defenseless women who were behind the police line. These officers need to be disciplined or relieved of duty. We as citizens need to let those that uphold the law understand that they do not write the law or bend it to their liking. These laws are here for our protection and yes there will be times that they will not like what we say or do but it is the laws that dictates where that line is and not those enforcing it. It is time that we let our governments know that this we will not tolerate actions of this nature.
