The British logging company, New Forests Company, has evicted more than 20,000 locals from their farms since 2006 according to an Oxfam International report http://www.oxfam.org/sites/www.oxfam.org/files/cs-new-forest-company-uganda-plantations-220911-en.pdf. The company maintains that the people left "voluntarily," however reports from the villagers claim that armed men forcibly removed men, women, and children from their homes, leaving them destitute. The company claims that many of the villagers had no legal right to the lands being acquired, but villagers state that they have farmed this land for over 40 years. This continued to occur despite two Ugandan high court orders for the company to restrain evictions.
