Nullify the Pacquiao-Bradley Fight Result and Declare Pacquiao the Winner

Nullify the Pacquiao-Bradley Fight Result and Declare Pacquiao the Winner
The Issue
Nothing is more questionable and deplorable in recent boxing history than the controversial split-decision that resulted in the loss of 8-division champion Manny Pacquiao in his WBO Welterweight title fight against Timothy Bradely, Jr. on June 9, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Although sports networks, boxing analysts, sports writers and the thousands who watched the fight clearly saw Manny Pacquiao won, two of the three judges, C.J. Ross and Duane Ford, gave the victory to Bradely by scoring the fight in his favor at 115-113. The other judge, veteran boxing judge Jerry Roth, scored it in favor of Pacquiao at 115-113.
Under the rules of the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC), a decision in a professional boxing match may be changed if the NAC determines that there was collusion affecting the result of the match or the compilation of the scorecards of the judges discloses an error which shows that the decision was given to the wrong fighter, among others (NAC 467.770). In the Pacquiao-Bradley fight, it was crystal clear that Pacquiao won the match. According to CompuBox, the ringside puncstat which has been used in over 600 fights and more than 350 boxing telecasts by HBO, Pacquiao landed 94 more punches than Bradley. Pacquiao landed 253 punches or a connect rate of 34%, as opposed to Bradley who only landed 159 punches or a connect rate of only 19%.
Without a doubt, Pacquiao dominated the fight and displayed superior boxing skills over Bradley by landing more power punches. In the words of the ringside boxing commentators, he outclassed Bradley. Aside from CompuBox, the following sports networks and boxing analysts scored the win for Pacquiao, as follows:
Harold Lederman of HBO: 119-109 in favor of Pacquiao
Dan Rafael of ESPN: 118-110 in favor of Pacquiao
Steve Carp of Las Vegas Review Journal: 117-111 in favor of Pacquiao
Yahoo! Sports: 117-111 in favor of Pacquiao
Tim Dahlberg of Associated Press: 117-111 in favor of Pacquiao
Guardian UK: 117-111 in favor of Pacquiao
LA Times: 117-111 in favor of Pacquiao
Fox Sports: 119-100 in favor of Pacquiao
Eastside Boxing: 118-110
Fighttype.com: 116-112
Noted professional boxing coach, analyst and commentator Emanuel Stewart, who was on ringside, said he was confused by the judges' decision. Veteran boxing analyst and commentator Max Kellerman called it flat out wrong. Even Pacquiao's detractors, Floyd Mayweather, Sr. and Manuel Marquez, thought Pacquiao won.
In the face of such glaring error - unless Duane Ford and C.J. Ross were blind and watching another boxing match - it is difficult not to think that there could have been collusion affecting the result of the match or these judges were just plainly incompetent in properly scoring the match. Either way, the decision to make Bradley win was clearly wrong and assaults our intelligence.
At a time when boxing was taking a heat by dipping in popularity, Pacquiao revived it with his aggressive style and sterling boxing skills. Let not this "black eye," as a lot of people are now starting to call it, further throw professional boxing on the canvass by allowing this controversial and deplorable decision to stand. It is not too late to prevent boxing's credibility and popularity from falling into the precipice. A rematch is not the answer.
Nullify the decision and declare Manny Pacquiao the true winner!
