Requesting information on BHP Billiton Navajo Mine potential acquisition to all Navajo Nation chapters.

Requesting information on BHP Billiton Navajo Mine potential acquisition to all Navajo Nation chapters.
The Issue
We, the undersigned concerned community members request information on the proposed acquisition of BHP Billiton Navajo Mine to all chapters of the Navajo Nation. This potential acquisition affects all Navajo People by the usage of Permanent Trust Fund for a Due Diligence Report and operation monies for Navajo Transitional Energy Company, LLC, the company recently initiated by the Navajo Nation Council to pursue purchase of Navajo Mine. The Navajo People need governmental transparency on all governmental levels (Navajo Nation, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Department of Interior) and increased public input. The Navajo People are deeply concerned about Navajo Nation Council’s decision waiving BHP Billiton’s past, present and future liabilities (health, financial, environmental, legal, etc.) that was passed in Legislation No. 0149-13. The Navajo People were not properly informed prior to the Legislation being passed, and did not receive appropriate time or information to voice their concerns. We request release of the Due Diligence Report, and the Memorandum of Understanding between Navajo Nation and BHP Billiton so our Navajo People can make an informed decision regarding their resources.
