Discontinue The Use Of The Herbicide "Roundup" By The NYC Department of Parks and Recreation.

The Issue

The signers of this petition are demanding a discontinuance of the use of the herbicide "Roundup" in NYC parks by the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation. For many years the NYC Dept. of Parks and Recreation have been applying the herbicide "Roundup" in both large parks such as Central Park, Riverside Park and Prospect Park, as well as most of the smaller city parks scattered across the boroughs. This activity by the Parks Dept. flies in the face of NYC's own Department of Sanitation' report on "Potential Health Effects of Chemical Constituents" and the EPA's "Technical Factsheet on: Glyphosate". It is now known through many scientific studies that "Roundup" and many of it's other "inert" ingredients, are harmful to humans, the environment and other living creatures, such as the honey bee.

Unlike some of the early studies, more recent research points to an undeniable risk to humans and other living organisms from exposure to the  herbicide "Roundup".

The parks departments in other US cities have either banned or discontinued the use of "Roundup" as an herbicide in their parks. Chicago, Illinois and Boulder, Colorado for example. We, the signers, now say that enough is enough. We ask that the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation ban and discontinue the use of "Roundup" in the beautiful parks of the city.
