Due to state funding cuts and declining local sales and property tax revenue, the Milwaukee County Transit System is facing a 12% service cut for 2012. If this goes through, Milwaukee County will have loast over 1/3 of its transit service since 2001. Important service to large sections of Milwaukee County, as well as the Freeway Flyers, Lakefront Festival Shuttles, and inner-city frequency will be cut. This will mean that thousands won't be able to access their jobs, and that buses in the inner-city will become dangerously overcrowded. A $20 County VRF is a stable, fair funding source that would stop these cuts. Support a VRF in the 2012 County Budget!
