MTSU needs to immediately take action to provide more student parking or cease taking class attendance. Students are suffering and being punished in our academics at the beginning of the school year for a problem we did not create. Students are being given a grade of F for classes based on attendance. Some professors only allow two days to miss and if your late your counted absent. Well people say ride a bike or arrive early. Some students arrive more than a hour before their classes start because their driving around looking for a park and most of the time. They end up arriving late to class or missing class due to not being able to find a park. One of the main issues is that people feel like they should not have to resort to alternate forms of transportation when tuition costs cover student parking. Many students commute to campus from the outskirts of Murfreesboro or as far away as Nashville which makes biking much less feasible. Plus, do not forget it's about to be cold outside and would only create another problem with designated areas for bikes. There is construction around the campus causing students from parking in certain areas. I understand Middle Tennessee State Unversity wanting to improve the quality of it's education facilities. However, what sense does it make to have a campus with a growing population. Middle Tennessee State University has a total undergraduate enrollment of 23,401. A total undergraduate and graduate enrollment combined of 26, 430. The second largest student body in the state of Tennessee and absolutely no revised accommodation for student parking.
