The fish in Walmart stores nationwide are kept in deplorable conditions. Witnesses across the nation have seen more dead fish than live ones in tanks, the bodies of the dead moldy or often deteriorated to the very bones. There have been mold deposits in tanks and a complete lack of gravel or sand substrate to help control bacteria and ammonia levels. Not only are these conditions unacceptable in stores, but it is also a risk for avid fish keepers who buy these poor creatures. The result could be contamination and death of otherwise healthy fish in a clean and balanced aquarium environment. It is clear Walmart should not be trusted to handle and sell living creatures!
