Principal Wang of Broadway elementary brought a Mandarin program to a school that was rapidly losing families and teachers, turning it into a thriving school where parents in Venice want to send their children again. Now that it is a success, LAUSD wants to move it to another location. The school has increased support and raised money for local parks and inadvertently decreased crime in that area. It has brought beautification to a street that people would have avoided in the past, created a safe environment for local children and brought children in from surrounding areas. By moving the program, you displace many local Venice families who believed that Broadway's Mandarin Immersion school would be their local school.
