Medicaid Matters More: Expand Medicaid Now!

Medicaid Matters More: Expand Medicaid Now!
The Issue
After advocacy efforts earlier this year, Governor Snyder heartily endorsed Medicaid expansion in his budget recommendation. Governor Snyder recognizes that Medicaid Expansion Makes Sense for Michigan both fiscally and physically.
In February, we delivered over 4,500 petition signatures to Governor Snyder in
support of Medicaid expansion. Since then, more people and more organizations have declared their support for Medicaid expansion. Health care providers and the business community all think that Medicaid expansion is a good idea.
Now, it is up to the Michigan Legislature to make sure that Medicaid expansion
is included in Michigan’s budget. Both the Michigan House and Senate need to
pass a budget that includes Medicaid expansion for Governor Snyder to sign.
Otherwise, Michigan will miss out on the opportunity to provide health insurance access to at least 400,000 people while saving Michigan money.
On March 20, the Michigan House Community Health Appropriations
Subcommittee decided not to include Medicaid expansion in its budget
recommendation despite the broad consensus throughout the state the Medicaid expansion is the appropriate course of action. We strongly urge both the Michigan House and Michigan Senate to support Governor Snyder by including Medicaid expansion in their budget recommendations.
We need the Michigan House and Michigan Senate to include Medicaid expansion in theirbudget recommendations for Governor Snyder to sign later this year. Our representatives need to hear from you!
Senator Randy Richardville, Senate Majority Leader, (517) 373-3543,
Senator Roger Kahn, Appropriations Committee Chairman, (517) 373-1760
Senator John Moolenaar, Chairman of Appropriations Community Health Subcommittee, 517-373-7946
Representative Jase Bolger, Speaker of the House, 517-373-1787
Representative Joe Haveman, Appropriations Committee Chairman, (517) 373-0830
