Don't change the Central Texas Humane Society into a euthanasia facility

Don't change the Central Texas Humane Society into a euthanasia facility
The Issue
In less than six weeks, The Central Texas Humane Society in Waco, TX will be vacated so that it may be transformed from an adoption facility to an "animal control facility." In accordance with state laws, stray and seized animals in the new facility would be subject to euthanasia after being held for only 72 hours. There will be NO opportunity for adoptions from this facility.
This transformation comes as a result of a budget dispute between the Humane Society and government officials who were not able to reach a budget agreement despite negotiations. On October 1st 2012, the Humane Society will turn its facility over to the city of Waco and the community will no longer be able to adopt animals being held there. All of the animals will be put down.
Waco Mayor Malcom Duncan, Jr explains the new mission of this facility by saying "What we're going to be doing is animal control." Humane society Interim execute director, Don Bland, stated "We're going to work out all the details neither side can answer right now." During the time it takes for these "details" to be worked out, massive numbers of animals will be put to death.
It seems as though officials on both sides of this matter are dismissing the obvious problem here: once the animals are taken into this facility, their clock starts ticking. They have three days to live with no chance of adoption. Every stray dog, puppy, kitten, and cat will die instead of being adopted into happy homes because of a budget dispute.
This tragic decision must be stopped if there is any hope of saving animals' lives. The City Council and the Humane Society must come to a new budget agreement in order to continue operating a facility that will not euthanize animals, but help them find forever homes through adoption.
Help me give the animals hope and tell the Mayor of Waco and the City Council that we will not allow this to happen. We will not stand by and allow animals to be killed over a money dispute. This transformation of this facility must be stopped now for the sake of the animals.
