Mayor Mike McGinn and Acting Parks Superintendent William Christopher: Oppose any ban on dogs in Seattle's public parks

The Issue

Seattle usually ranks at the top of any list of dog friendly cities in the US, but if a proposal by the Seattle Board of Parks passes, no one will consider Seattle dog friendly any more.

Some local residents and businesses asked the Seattle Board of Park Commissioners to ban dogs from Occidental Park and Westlake Park.

Dogs must already be leashed in Seattle's parks and are banned from playgrounds, athletic fields, and beaches.

Banning dogs from public parks is unfair to Seattle dog owners and is a discriminatory policy.

Robert PregulmanPetition StarterI recently started the blog Seattle DogSpot so I could start writing about the thing I'm most passionate about - dogs. I mainly write about dogs and dog related issues in and around Seattle, but I also comment on national and international stories as well. I plan to expand the site in the next few months so it will be THE spot that Seattle area dog owners will go for information regarding all things dog. Before starting my blog I organized and directed campaigns for a nonprofit environmental and consumer advocacy group for 13 years. I currently live in Seattle with my wife, 2 dogs, and 2 cats.
