Dear Mayor and Councilmembers,

City staff has been negotiating with Cox Cable TV about Cox’s new 10-year contract with the City for the last 2 years, without any input from the public. Yet there are serious issues that need to be resolved before an agreement is signed. One issue is Cox’s responses to the findings of a 2006 financial audit, which showed that Cox had paid the City less than it owed. A second issue is Cox’s willingness to provide enough basic tier channels for all people to receive programming. There are other problems with the draft agreement as well, all of which have been described to Mayor and Council. Therefore, we strongly request that the City resolve these issues with Cox in a transparent and public way before signing any agreement.
