Save the Matrix House

The Issue

Due to city budget cuts the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is proposing to Mayor Brown that the Community
Transition Center (CTC) be closed down. The CTC is a 300 bed facility located in downtown Jacksonville at 451
Catherine Street. The primary mission is to prepare incarcerated persons to transition back into our community.
CTC hosts an array of programs to provide opportunities for those wishing to help themselves, and for
those mandated into the programs by the judicial system.
The largest program, Matrix House, is in jeopardy due to the budget cuts. This program is an in-jail substance
abuse treatment program provided in partnership with the contracted provider, River Region Human Services, Inc. A maximum of 135 inmates are placed in an intensive four month program that addresses all
facets of addictions. Matrix House clients receive group counseling as well as one on one counseling and aftercare.
Matrix House has been a successful program for 20 years that benefits all of Jacksonville. It is one of the most
successful in-jail treatment programs in the country. This program provides alcohol and drug treatment for
inmates while they are also receiving counseling, coping skills, and skill development allowing them to transition
back in to the general population and not repeat their drug use and other criminal activities. This program has helped thousands regain their lives and go on to be successful contributing people in our community. The Matrix House program is a valuable asset to Jacksonville and should not be closed. Please let the Mayor,
Sheriff and City Council know that you want the Matrix House program to continue.
