Reconsider inhumane removal of prairie dogs

Reconsider inhumane removal of prairie dogs
The Issue
Starting next Monday (March 5th) the town of Frederick plans on eradicating large populations of prairie dogs. They claim 'health concerns' as the reason, but the fleas on the prairie dogs are what transmit disease, and research shows that killing the fleas with delta dust or pyraperm is an effective way to prevent the plague from reaching colonies and spreading within colonies. Prairie dogs are ecologically important- they are prey to hawks, ferrets, eagles, and badgers and their burrows are used as nests by burrowing owls and mountain plovers.
Prairie Dogs are a protected species in other parts of Colorado.
The prairie dogs' habitat in Frederick is on Open Spaces land, meaning it cannot be used as development. PLEASE tell Mayor Doering that there are other solutions than just heartless murder. PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO SHOW YOUR CONCERN FOR A MORE ECOLOGICALLY SOUND SOLUTION.
