Maximum Sentence for MI Animal Abusers After 60 Animals Removed from Home

The Issue

Kingford, MI: Two women, Kathy Khoury and Joan Khoury, were arrested after their horses were discovered in terrible condition.

More than 60 animals were taken from their homes, including the horses, dogs and cats. The animals were taken to no-kill shelters.

The women were charged with four counts each of misdemeanor cruelty to animals. Each count carries up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine. They may also be ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

A jury trial has been scheduled for October 5, 2012.

Please add your signature to this petition, which respectfully requests that if found guilty, Kathy Khoury and Joan Khoury be given the maximum sentence allowable under law. Also that the court orders them to be responsible for the cost of caring for the animals, and that neither be allowed to own animals again.
