Maximum Charges for Daniel Steen if found guilty of Felony Aggravated Animal Cruelty

The Issue

Daniel Steen, 26 of Dryersburg, TN was arrested for felony aggravated animal cruelty for allegedly killing his room mate's dog. Steen reported he killed the Chihuahua after the dog urinated on the floor. His room mate reported that Steen called her at work and told her that her dog was dead. Steen turned himself in after the investigation had been completed. He was issued a $5000 bond and had his first court appearance on April 23 and the next court date will be June 4.
Tennessee State Law states "a person commits aggravated cruelty to animals when, with aggravated cruelty and with no justifiable purpose, the person intentionally kills or intentionally causes serious physical injury to a companion animal."
DPD Capt. Steve Isbell stated “"I hope this will help educate people that there are consequences to harming animals. It is very troubling to me that there are people in society that feel harming a companion animal or any animal is OK. People need to know that we will investigate and take the cases as far as we can for those who can't defend themselves."
