Return the WGN News at Nine to WGN America

Return the WGN News at Nine to WGN America
The Issue
The WGN News at Nine has been shown over the national network WGN America (previously SuperStation WGN) for over 35 years. The "new" management of the Tribune Company, which owns the network and WGN-TV has decided that the national audience is no longing deserving to see this great newscast in favor "original programming." We are a group of concerned viewers who have enjoyed the WGN News for years, many of us since its inception, and we want it returned to WGN America! WGN News at Nine is an excellent, factual, unbiased newscast that incorportates many great feature stories as well as national and world news. It is not merely a Chicago newscast and is unlike most secular media outlets in that they report the news straight and to the point without a left or right winged slant. The weather segment with Tom Skilling is outstanding which is why Tom is known as "America's Weatherman." The uniqueness of the braodcast is why we want it back. Furthermore, not all viewers are former Chicagoans, as WGN America has repeatedly stated. Pictured are the WGN News at Nine Team: Dan Roan (top), Mark Suppelsa (left), Micah Materre (right), and Tom Skilling (bottom). Follow us at: https://www.facebook.com/WGNNewsFans.
The original programming described here includes a new program titled "Salem" and is a show about witchcraft, devil worship, and the occult, and is set to debut on Easter Sunday. They feel a program of this nature is more important to viewers than an excellent newscast. WGN America's main concern is financial gain and corporate greed. Matthew Cherniss, president of WGN America, believes the only way to improve the network is by changing everything and making it into another FX or HBO. We feel there is room for growth and new programs while also broadcasting an outstanding newscast on the national level. You can have your new and original programming Mr. Cherniss, but please give your loyal viewers the news back.
We care about this cause because viewers across America want a quality newscast; one that is highly rated and highly regarded by so many people. Sometimes, quality programming like the WGN News at Nine should take precedence over greediness. Will that one hour per evening really hurt the powerful Tribune Company?
Let them know your feelings by calling 773-883-3200 and email WGNAmerica@tribune.com. Also, you can write directly to the President of WGN America, Matthew Cherniss, at mcherniss@tribune.com or Larry Wert, President of the Tribune Company Broadcast Media Division at lwert@tribune.com and let them know your concerns.
If we win and have the newscast returned to WGN America, it will once again provide thousands of people the opportunity to view an extraordinary news program unlike any other. If we lose, it is a sad day for television viewers everywhere, especially since the program replacing the news is contributing more to the corruption of society rather than enhancing it. Young minds especially, do not need a program like "Salem" to be entertained. It is not all about ratings, ad revenue, and greed, Mr. Cherniss. Think about how you are influencing the young adults of America.
