The manufacturing, processing, and transport of bottled water produce millions of metric tons of greenhouse gases. These gases are a major contributor to global warming. Only one in five bottles is recycled, the rest end up in landfills or elsewhere. Three times the amount of water is used to produce a plastic bottle than fill it. If we work to ban the sale of plastic water bottles on campus, we could save the campus money and help raise awareness in the community about the dangers of plastic water bottles. By signing this petition I am requesting the support of the Marylhurst University board of trustees and President Judith Johansen in the mission of banning the sale of bottled water on Marylhurst campus.
