Please tell Target Corp. to re-hire Tashawna Greene (photo below), a leading pro-union voice in a union election at Valley Stream Target in June 2011.
Target employees from Valley Stream, New York (T-1262) came together to pioneer change. On June 17, 2011 workers from T-1262 voted in a union election. Unfortunately Target management used intimidation, scare tactics & in some cases bribery to influence workers into voting No. Target Corp. was filled with contempt when they heard of workers potentially coming together to demand better pay & respect on the job and did everything possible to avoid this.
Now, Target has fired a leading voice for change at Valley Stream Target, Tashawna Greene. Tashawna is a 21-year old single mother of a 6-year old daughter, and has been fired for allegedly acting in "overly hostile, disruptive manner that is inconsistent with Target's policies." This could not be anything further from the truth. Target has fired Ms. Greene for one reason: her pro-union attitude. She was fired for believing she deserved more from her billion-dollar employer. Is this the price we now pay for standing up for ourselves and fighting for what is right? Ms. Greene never let her beliefs affect her work. She said herself, “I believe I was fired because of my participation in the union campaign,” “Because I'm for the union, they wanted to get rid of me.”
Target's true colors continue to be shown. Please join in telling Target to re-hire Tashawna Greene, who was fired unjustly for supporting the unionization drive at Valley Stream Target.
Target's Anti-Worker Policies:
-Anti-union video all Target new-hires are required to watch..
-Target distributed literature which questioned if the store will close if the workers voted to unionize.
-Anti-Union propaganda website.
-Gawker summarized life at Target: "Slowly Killing My Soul: Life at Target'"
-Some long tenured employees said they hadn't received a raise in years, while CEO of Target, Gregg Steinhafel, received an 83% raise in 2010. Workers across America agreed, Target needs to change.

Re-Hire Tashawna Greene Now!
Greetings,
When we heard of your employees at Valley Stream Target voting for union representation on June 17, 2011, we were encouraged and excited. Then we discovered that some employees were subjected to intimidation, scare tactics, lies and bribery in order to influence workers to vote No.
Now, we discovered that you have fired Tashawna Greene, a 21-year old single mother & a leading union voice at Valley Stream Target! We are appalled you would go to this length in order to keep your employees from trying to better their lives by unionizing. It is a basic right for employees to band together and attempt to form a union. Tashawna has done nothing but stand up for her basic rights. It is repulsive that your company would fire a single mother, who is barely making ends meet in order to set an example to your other employees.
We are disgusted that a company of your stature continues to take opportunities to change and do right by their employees as opportunities to intimidate and diminish more rights for your employees.
Workers like Tashawna have helped build your company into the giant it is. They're simply fighting for respect at work. Tashawna was fired unjustly. We appeal to you, re-hire her immediately.
