Why This Is Important

Increased airport tax needs to be justified with good quality facilities. Malaysia Airports, particularly the Low Cost Terminal (LCCT) is definitely not up to the standard. The problems at the LCCT have also tarnished the perception of Malaysia and are caused mainly by the poor planning and handling of the LCCT infrastructure by Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad.

The LCCT at present does not resemble an international airport that is the hub for the region’s largest low-cost carrier. The space is cramped; the facilities underwhelming and the services atrocious. The entire facility is an embarrassment for a country and an administration that pride themselves on providing ‘First World’ infrastructure.

Malaysia Airports will be charging RM32 per pax for passengers using LCCT without any upgrade to the current facilities.

For airports in Langkawi, Penang and Kuching, the substantial price of RM65 is almost half the price of airlines fare.

This will discourage people from taking holidays and put the tourism industry at a major risk.
