The Issue

At Quest Academy in South Croydon, England, governors and Andy Croft (the school's principal-headmaster) enforced a "no physical contact" policy.  Meaning handshakes, high-fives, and hugs, are now all banned.

Mr. Croft's reasoning behind this policy?

"Physical contact between students is not allowed at the academy because it is often associated with poor behaviour or bullying and can lead to fighting."

Now, without a doubt bullying happens in schools, but to bring bullying and poor behavior into a conversation about pupils and students who are actually comfortable around their fellow classmates, is absurd.  One could make a guess that simple playground games such as hide-and-seek and tag will no longer be allowed to be played during recesses.

You are supposed to WANT your students to feel comfortable around each other.  They're at the school as well, it's not just you there.

I am requesting that Quest Academy, the headmaster, and the governors UNBAN their No Physical Contact policy.
