Lumberton North Carolina Councilmen: Do Not Demolish the Old City Hall/ Fire Department

Lumberton North Carolina Councilmen: Do Not Demolish the Old City Hall/ Fire Department

The Issue

This dignified, carefully detailed Colonial Revival style brick veneer municipal building erected in 1917 to serve as city offices and the fire station. The building features a high slate-covered hip roof crowned by a wooden balustrade around a classical cupola. The elaborate main entrance fashioned after a Palladian window with double-leaf door set in an arched surround surmounted by an open pediment flanked by single light windows and Corinthian pilasters. Losing this important building in downtown would leave a void in town that could never be filled. Please let the city officials know we will not allow them to TEAR DOWN ANY MORE OF OUR HISTORY!!!!

This building could and should serve as an anchor for downtown. The building itself could serve as a memorial for lost police and firefighters.
