Free Morgan the imprisoned Orca
Free Morgan the imprisoned Orca
The Issue
Morgan, the juvenille Orca was taken to the Harderwijk Dolpinarium in June of 2010, to be nursed back to a physical condition where she could be released back the wild. Scientists, Marine Specialists, NGOs have all testified that Morgan is a prime candidate to be set free off the coast of Norway, where she was initially found. The country of Norway welcomes her back to their waters and have agreed to assist her re-introduction to the wild. The courts of Netherland, however, have disregarded the scientific data and have sent Morgan to Loro Parque inTererife, Canary Islands (Spain). Morgan should be released back into the wild, a concrete tank is no place for an animal that can swim 100 km a day. Captive Orcas do not live as long as they do in the wild, they can develope physical and psychological problems as we have seen in the winter of 2009-2010, when two trainers were killed by captive Orcas; at Loro Parque in Tenerife and at Sea World in Orlando. Please do not let the reputation of Spain be blemished by a decision to imprison a young Orca Whale, who is a prime candidate for freedom to the wild where nature can follow it's path for Morgan. Thank you.
