Lesbian Author Re-writes The Crucifixion -- Makes Jesus Gay
The Issue
From the seat of the website Jesusinlove.org, lesbian author Kittredge Cherry is releasing a re-written version of Christ's life called Jesus in Love: At the Cross, focusing on the last days of Jesus' earthly existence with the addition of a gay love affair between Jesus and John. Her motives for writing this story, Cherry says, were because "Christ's story is for everyone, but GLBT people often feel left out because conservatives use Christian rhetoric to justify hate and discrimination," and that, in recreating the story she hopes "to make Christ more accessible".
These excerpts and a fresh one every day at the Jesusinlove blog come from Kittredge Cherry's new novel Jesus in Love: At the Cross, as well as featuring works of new Christian art on similar themes. Cherry, who is a Christian author, art historian and minister, has released many books, and these previous gay and lesbian themed spiritual offerings have earned her both widespread praise and criticism. Her website attests that her work has often been called "garbage" or "a blatant act of defamation and blasphemy". Kittredge, it seems, remains defiant.
"Some of Christ's followers preach hate," she says, "but Christ loved everyone, including sexual outcasts." Kittredge even orchestrates a marriage of sorts between Jesus and John by contorting a few biblical passages:to read more follow the link below:
Is this re-working of the Easter story offensive?
