Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford, who was arrested on June 4 for marijuana possession, has now been charged and faces a six-month jail term.

The 24-year-old was arrested in the car park of an Irish pub in Texas after police found an unlit joint in his vehicle and he may be sentenced to up to six months in jail if convicted on the misdemeanor.

The actor was sitting in a friend's Nissan car in car park of Ringo's Pub in the early hours of June 4 when police swooped.

The District Attorney in Collin County, Texas decided to press charges.

Crawford, who plays Manhattan rich kid Nate Archibald in the hit show, had just returned from a family trip to Mexico.

His next big screen role was to be in the new movie Twelve, which also stars rapper 50 Cent and Kiefer Sutherland.

He was also set to reprise the role of Ren McCormack, made famous by Kevin Bacon in the 1984 classic, but had to withdraw from the project.
