Justice for Harper, Pit Bull Puppy Thrown Over 50-Foot Embankment in PA

Portland, OR, United States
Created January 19, 2012

The Issue

Northumberland County, PA: A search was on to locate the owner of a critically-injured puppy that had been wrapped in a towel and thrown over a 50-foot embankment. The 12 week-old pit bull terrier sustained severe brain injury and was unable to move her legs.   The Good Samaritan who found her contacted the no-kill shelter Mostly Mutts, who rushed the puppy named Harper to the Sunbury Animal Hospital for treatment.

A tip alerted police to Harpers former owners, Michael Wolfe and Angelina Coladonado. Both have been charged with conspiracy - cruelty to animals and unsworn falsification to authorities.  Originally they told police that Harper was ill so they gave her away. Wolfe has since admitted to wrapping Harper in a towel and throwing her off the embankment to dispose of her, rather than getting her the medical attention she needed. Wolfe has also been charged with cruelty to animals.  All charges are misdemeanors.

Since little Harper’s condition is so severe, it is unknown if she will recover. However, the good news is that the swelling in her brain has gone down, and she is starting to regain flexibility in her legs.

This petition respectfully requests that if found guilty, Michael Wolfe and Angelina Coladonado be given the maximum sentence allowable under law and that they never be allowed to own animals again.
