Following a landslide vote for the recall of Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez and County Commissioner Natasha Seijas, Miami Voice, Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation and No Kill Nation are calling for the resignation of Miami-Dade Animal Services Director Dr. Sara Pizano.

Under Pizano's leadership, which was supported by Alvarez and County Manager George Burgess, who will be resigning in the wake of the recall, Miami-Dade Animal Services killed over 20,000 homeless pets last year -- over 60 percent of the animals who came in their door.

In addition, the shelter has faced controversy over heartstick euthanasia, their high euthanasia rate, and keeping the public and local rescue organizations in the dark about what really happens in the shelter.

It's time for Miami-Dade to stop wasting taxpayer dollars on inhumane policies and to start saving lives. The new leadership in the county must include new leadership at the animal shelter, too. Join the call for Sara Pizano's resignation.
