John McCain stated in Pro Sports Daily , “If you want me to believe that J.J. Barea is a citizen of this fine country, have him send some proof to my office. You don’t learn to speak Spanish that effectively in our school systems. That I guarantee.”

Obviously Mr. McCain has forgotten his history.  The relationship between Puerto Rico and the United States has its origins dating back to the Spanish-American War, in which Spain ceded the island to the U.S. in 1898. Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens and the United States Congress legislates many aspects of Puerto Rican life.
