Janice Hahn won a congressional race on July 12th. During the campaign she attacked her opponent for his support for cutting Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. She said she would be "A true fighter for working families." Yet, in her first interview after her election, she opened the door to cutting these programs at a time working families may need them the most.

When asked directly about whether or not she would support cuts to Social Security and Medicare as part of a deal to raise the debt ceiling she responded: "Americans want us to get together and come up with common sense solutions... If compromises need to be made, I will certainly follow the lead of the President."

Essential programs such as these should not be on the table. The Congressional Progressive Caucus is sending a letter to Nancy Pelosi pledging to oppose any deal that cuts Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

As the newest member of Congress, Janice Hahn should co-sign the letter and stand up for everyone who relies on these vital programs.

Dear Congresswoman-Elect Janice Hahn

I was dismayed to hear that you had opened the door to cuts to Social Security and Medicare. These programs are far to important to be used as a bargaining chip.

I hope that this was a misunderstanding and that you will pledge your opposition to these types of cuts. The Congressional Progressive Caucus has a letter to Nancy Pelosi promising to oppose any deal that cuts Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. It would be very powerful if you would co-sign the letter.

During the campaign, you said you were "A true fighter for working families." Those families need you to fight for them now. Oppose all cuts to these essential programs. Please co-sign the CPC letter.
