IRS should toughen rules on church lobbying

IRS should toughen rules on church lobbying
The Issue
Hopefully, you're well aware that strict separation of church and state has long served to protect both civil government and religious freedom in the US, a goal deemed fundamental by the Founding Fathers. At present, the Internal Revenue Service is working to clarify federal tax laws that bar churches and other tax-exempt religious organizations from endorsing or opposing candidates. Too many churches violate these rules! The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), a Religious Right legal group, is even urging churches to endorse political candidates in defiance of 501.c.3 regulations. The IRS should make clear that these rules will be strictly enforced; now.
