When my son was seven years old, a man we allowed in our home as family molested him. The man's name is Johnathon Umphlett and he is my girlfriend’s son. My son did not tell us this horrible thing had happened to him until he was ten and the man had been out of our lives for several months. This incident occurred while living in Hot Springs, Ar. Since the incident, my family and Johnathon had all moved to North Carolina. Upon finding out that this had happened, I contacted the Hot Springs Police Department and went through the proper channels to file charges. They conducted interviews with my son and conducted interviews with Johnathon, who was incarcerated in North Carolina on other charges at the time. Several weeks later, the Hot Spring Police Department with their findings contacted me. I was informed that they felt that the molestation had occurred and Johnathon had admitted to showing pornographic materials to my son. However, they would not be pursuing charges against Johnathon because the incident occurred three years ago; it was my son’s word against Jonathon’s and the parties no longer lived in Arkansas. Since this occurred, while talking to other members of the family and friends, and his own admissions, he has repeatedly offended since the time he was twelve. His first victim being his own sister and the latest, that I am aware of, was a nine year old boy who lived at the local homeless shelter. Please help me give my son piece of mind, knowing that the man that did this horrible thing to him is punished and stop him from hurting yet another child.
