Rapa das Bestas is an annual horse wrestling festival in Galicia. The purpose of this festival is to shave the wild horses, brand, deworm and tame them and sell them for labour or human consumption. The festival starts by whipping some 600-700 untamed horses from the mountains down into a corral, where they are wrestled down to the ground. Aloitadores subdue the horses using poles and ropes, or with their bare hands using brute force. The first aloitador jumps onto a horse, while another teammate pulls the horse's tail with such a force that destabilizes the horse. In the meanwhile, a third aloitador grabs the horse's neck, eventually forcing the horse to the ground. Once pinned down, the main and tail are trimmed and the horse is branded. This horse wrestling festival is considered a noble tradition in Galicia.
