The MTR (local subway system) of Hong Kong has recently discovered an archaelogical site during the construction of the Shatin-Central rail.  Instead of preserving this vital link to the Chinese and local Hong Kong history, the MTR company has decided to continue with the construction. The Hong Kong government has granted apporval of the destruction of the nearly 1000 year old site.  We urge you to preserve the world heritage by signing this petition.

Formal history indicates that the last two emperors of the Sung dynasty and their entourage settled in Hong Kong to escape the Mongolians.  The settlements are believed to be located in present day To Kwah Wan, where at least 1000 boxes of artifacts and a well preserved well have been discovered.  

The Hong Kong government, however, only wants to satisfy the business tycoons.  They just want to make billions of dollars from the new railway, along with the profits from real estate associated with the project, and care less about prevserving the artifacts.  We should stop the greedy from destroying what the Sung emperors gave to the people of Hong Kong!

Please support our effort to ask the Hong Kong government to realign the rail, instead of forever destroying a vital link of history of all mankind.

Historical importance:  

Artifacts unearthed include a lot of everyday items, such as ceramic bowls, dishes, lamp stands and censers. Around 23 percent of them are products from the valuable Longquan Kiln, and are made from celadon porcelain.
