Hometown Democracy: A seat at the table on development decisions

The Issue

An amendment to the Florida constitution that would bring voters directly into the process of land use change decisions.  Florida growth has increasingly come under the control of the major development corporations, many of them out of the state.  The result has been unbridled growth of subdivisions and strip malls to the detriment of wetlands, conservation areas, and wildlife habitats.  The growth has contributed critically to the housing bubble and its inevitable collapse which has caused foreclosures and unemployment to be among the highest in the country.  Overbuilding has caused taxes to increase and home values decline.

We urge a yes vote on Amendment 4 on November 2, 2010
